Art Classes at Surroundings Art Gallery

Summer 2008

Want to have more fun while you are in the Sandwich area this summer? Surroundings is offering a summer full of art classes which will accommodate the first timer as well as those who have some experience in painting. Just for variety, we have thrown in a “field sketching” workshop. So if you want to do more while in the area, Surroundings is the place to be.

Class DescriptionsEach class is tailored to the interests of the students, but generally include a demonstration, discussion, practice time, and individual feedback. You can be a beginner or experienced artist for these classes. The techniques and instruction will apply to all levels. The instructor can tailor the discussion and help to any level of expertise.

Class Focus: A few of the classes will have a specific focus area such as still lifes or plein-air painting, however, most will be more generic. Check the specific class descriptions for those classes with a specific focus area.

Class Times: The morning classes will be held from 9am – noon at the Gallery. A couple of classes will have a longer day. Look at the particular class to determine the class time.

Cost: The cost varies by class and is listed below for each class. A 10% discount from the course price is provided for any additional class you attend.

Supplies: The price of the class is based on you bringing your own supplies. However, a small starter kit will be available for those who prefer not to bring their supplies. Some supplies can be bought on an a la carte basis. For the oil workshops, turpenoid will be available for cleaning brushes.

Class Size: The oil workshops will be limited to 6 students and the watercolor and field sketching workshops to 8 students . The minimum requirement will be 4 students for the class to take place.
