Mary Bohn, a New Englander, lives in the foothills of the White Mountains. Her distinctive watercolors and acrylics show the beauty of the mountains and forests, the lakes and waterways, the towns, and local and seasonal festivals. Mary seeks out the opportunity to stand before her subject matter, reviewing her options by evaluating what are the unusual color and composition components. Each scene gives her the opportunity to decide whether to use a more traditional approach in painting her subject or a bold and free approach using techniques such as vibrant color washes. Mary Bohn’s watercolors richly display the subject matter generating feelings of joy and excitement. Other works feature spectacular color achieved through the use of mixed media where she may incorporate layers of polymer medium, metallic colors, interference colors, and sometimes collage. Mary Bohn has exhibited her paintings from New England’s North Country to as far south as the Carolina’s. Her training includes a BA, Art Major, from Michigan State University and she has studied with a number of nationally known artists.
